Short
version:
It's a FREE game where each week you
try to pick which NFL Team(s) will have the most Passing Yards, most
Russing Yards, most Points Scored, and fewest Points Allowed. You can
use the same or different teams for each category, but can't use the
same team two weeks in a row.
You create a "fantasy team" which accumulates stats from your picks,
and your team's totals are compared to those of other teams. At the end
of the season, the player with
the best overall ranking - wins a youth size NFL jersey.
Did we mention it's FREE?
More thorough version:
What is this league?
This league is an accumulated stats
league for
beginning football fans, designed to stimulate their interest in the
NFL, sports statistics, and fantasy sports in general.
How do you win?
The league commissioner tracks
statistics in four
categories:
- Points Scored,
- Points Allowed,
- Yards Gained by
Passing (team net yardage... yards lost from Sacks are subtracted from
the
quarterbacks' totals), and
- Yards Gained by Rushing.
The players' fantasy teams use the statistics from real NFL teams in
each of those categories. After each week, the fantasy teams' totals in
those categories will be
updated. The overall standings are determined by the ranking the teams'
accumulated totals in each
category and adding those rankings together:
Points Allowed is ranked fom fewest to most, while the three other
categories are ranked from most to least.
Each week the team totals and possibly the rankings will change, and at
the end of the 17 week NFL season, the winning rotisserie team wil be
the team with the lowest TOTAL ranking.
There is no head-to-head scoring or playoffs.
What do I do?
Each week of the NFL season, a player
must
choose the team to represent them in each category (the same team may
be
used for more than one category). For example:
- Brian might choose to use the New England Patriots for
all four categories.
- Cindy might choose to use the San Diego Chargers
for Points Scored and Yards Gained by Rushing, but use the Arizona
Cardinals for Passing Yards and the New York Giants for Points Scored.
- Hector might choose to use the Indianapolis Colts for Points
Scored,
the Patriots for Points Allowed, the Dallas Cowboys for Passing Yards,
and the Jacksonville Jaguars for Rushing Yards.
These selections must be mailed to
jrcommish@turnleftatthecorner.com
by 11:59 PM EST on
SATURDAY
of each week. (Note:
if there is a Thursday game, be sure you send your picks in early if
you plan to use one of those teams!!!)
Please be sure to put your
FANTASY TEAM
NAME and THE WEEK NUMBER the selections are to be used for in your
email. You may submit your selections in advance, and you
can change your choices until the 11:59 EST deadline. All
decisions of punctuality of submissions (whether or not you make it in
before the deadline) are made by the commissioner and not subject to
debate or discussion.
After all the games that week have been played, the stats will be
updated.
There
is one very important rule regarding
selections: see below.
Any restrictions on picking my teams?
YES!!!!
As
stated before, you can use one team
for all four categories, or you can use multiple teams to accumulate
your statistics.
However, YOU
CANNOT USE THE
SAME TEAM IN A CATEGORY TWO WEEKS IN A ROW.
Let's look back at our earlier example:
- Cindy might choose to use the San Diego Chargers
for Points Scored and Yards Gained by Rushing, but use the Arizona
Cardinals for Passing Yards and the New York Giants for Points Scored.
There
is no problem with her using the Chargers for two categories.
However, when she makes her selections for the next week - she cannot
use the Chargers for Points Scored or Rushing Yards. She CAN use the
Chargers for either of the other two categories, and she can use the
Chargers for Points Scored and/or Rushing Yards in two weeks, but each
week a different team must be used for each spot.
- Similarly, Brian (who picked the Patriots for all four categories
in
the example) could not use the Patriots for any of his categories the
next week, but could use the Patriots the week after that.
- And Hector
could use the same four teams if he wished, but he could not use the
same teams for the same stat category two weeks in a row.
What happens if I make a mistake?
If a deadline is missed or if a team is
used
in consecutive weeks for a particular category, the player will earn
points as follows:
Points Scored -
7 points less than the worst earned by a team with valid picks.
Points Allowed -
7 points more than the worst earned by a team with valid picks.
Passing Yards - 100 yards less than the worst earned by a team
with valid picks.
Rushing Yards - 50 yards less than the worst earned by a team
with valid picks.
Is there an entry fee? Are there any prizes?
The game is free. FREE!
Junior Rotisserie Football is made
possibly by a generous donation from
J2
Content LLC, and is offered free to to the community.
The player with the best overall ranking at the end of the season will
win a youth sized JERSEY (!!!) from their favorite NFL team. (you pick
the team, we pick the player - but we'll work with you)
When does it all start?
The season begins Thursday, September
10, 2009 so you want to sign up before then, but late signups are allowed (see below).
The season already started, can I still join?
Actually, it did NOT start yet, so
you are fine. But, if you end up waiting too long and decide you want
to join the fun AFTER September 3, then you should
email the commish at
jrcommish@turnleftatthecorner.com to let him know you are
interested right away. We will review late signups on a case-by-case
basis. Players allowed to join late will be identified with an asterix,
"*" at the end of their team name and will be awarded adjusted scores
as if they had forgotten to submit picks.
With some luck and smart selections,
you can join late and still be a top finisher in the game - but why
wait? Sign up now and join the fun!
email jrcommish@turnleftatthecorner.com
